Unfortunately, Realm Works is driven by a high-performance database engine that frequently trips up the “smarts” of these services, as attempts to backup the database while in use often result in a corrupted copy or an access conflict that causes either the automated backup or Realm Works itself to outright fail. Services like Dropbox and Google Drive have become smarter, and those smarts are tailored to the common types of files on your computer. For simple backup purposes, there is an additional consideration. For more details, please see the next topic below. First of all, it’s important that you do not use a cloud storage service to migrate the Realm Works database between two computers. However, be aware there may be dragons down this path. You certainly may for the purposes of basic backup. Handouts are History – Once your players have access to everything online, you don’t need to create handouts, which gives you more time to focus on other aspects of your game.In conjunction with the Player Edition, server access makes it easy to share your world with your players outside of the game. Best of all, there’s no extra work involved on your part. They can independently lookup information, review what they’ve learned, and even make their own notes. Sharing Content with Players – Imagine being able to give all your players access to just the information they’ve uncovered through the course of play, including map fragments, hints, clues, details, etc.Everything is safely secured for you, always available for retrieval if something happens to your computer. Peace of Mind – When your realms are synced to our server, you don’t need to worry about making your own backups.If you want to only keep a single realm you’re actively using on a particular computer, you can leave everything else on our servers until you want them. A Realm Works database can grow quite large over time, which can become a concern on computers with limited storage available (e.g. Selective Syncing – If you have multiple realms, you can choose which realms to keep on any given computer.As your realms evolve, intelligent syncing makes it a breeze to move between computers, which is invaluable if you have one where you create your world and another you use to run your games. Switch to your laptop and sync, with only the changes you made on your desktop being brought down to your laptop. Make a few changes on your desktop and sync to the server, with only those few changes being sent to the server. Intelligent Syncing – Realm Works tracks what content has been changed, allowing you to efficiently utilize your content on multiple computers.To help clarify this distinction, we’ve outlined below a handful of capabilities that “server access” provides.
